Dental Care over the school holidays

The Community Dental Service will be closed for the upcoming school holidays:

     Closed from: Monday 8 July 2024
     Reopen: Monday 22 July 2024

Three of our community dental clinics will be open during the break:

     Hillmorton (80-82 Sylvan Street)
     Aranui        (240 Breezes Road)
     Timaru       (18 Woollcombe Street)

If your child is experiencing any dental pain/discomfort, you can call us on 0800 846 983 and/or email: commdental@cdhb.health.nz and one of our clinicians will contact you.

We are accepting 2025 enrolment applications until 31 August 2024.

Enrolment applications will be subject to being in-zone or by winning a place through our out-of-zone applications.

Out-of-zone enrolment applications are certainly welcome. We envisage accepting the majority of out-of-zone enrolments so please do not be put off applying.

The enrolment of out-of-zone students is governed by the provisions of the Education and Training Act 2020.

If the number of out-of-zone applications exceeds the number of places available, students will be selected by ballot. If a ballot for out-of-zone places is required, it will be held the following week.  Parents will be informed of the outcome of the ballot within three working days of the ballot being held.

On Wednesday 14 February we will have our Mihi Whakatau to welcome all our new members of our school, this will include our whole Year 7 student cohort, new Year 8 students, our International students with their supporting staff and our new Kirkwood staff. Our kapahaka roopu, Te Kaupeka, will be performing to tautoko the event.

In addition, a hāngī lunch will be provided with it being served at approximately 1pm. Sharing kai is a way of coming together in Te Ao Māori and we are fortunate to have our Haka Kaiako, Matua Willie and Whaea Tania helping Te Kaupeka prepare the kai.

We look forward to welcoming our new members at this special event.

We are looking into the future for homestay families to host short and long term international students for 2024.  Our current Homestay Fee rate pays $320 per week. 

For those interested please contact Alison Xie, our International Coordinator via alisonxie@kirkwood.school.nz.  

The Board has determined that there are a further 10 Year 7 places for out of zone students available at Kirkwood for enrolment in 2024.

Deadline for receipt of applications: Wednesday 3 April 2024.

October Update:

Our refurbishment is going well and is on schedule.  Our new library is about open and 5 of our new classrooms are up and running this term.  We are excited for the phase 2 which will hopeully be completed end of February 2024.

March 2024 Update

All of our Year 7 classes are moving to our newly refurbished classroom just after Easter, and then work will begin on Rooms 1 and 2, as well as the conversion of our old library into our new staffroom. The building site office will be moved to a space in front of our Technology classrooms T1, 2 and 3. This will mean that parking from Riccarton Road will be very limited. Please arrange to pick up and drop off your children on Riccarton Road, on Karamu Place, or on Kirkwood Avenue. Thank you for your support with this.

Our school year starts with ‘meet the teacher’ for all pupils where you book a 15 minute meeting with the classroom teacher, on either Wednesday 31 January or Thursday 1 February 2024.
