Zone information

Kirkwood Intermediate School has implemented an enrolment scheme that has been developed by the Secretary of Education.

Under this scheme students will be enrolled if they live within the home zone. Please click on this link to view our enrolment schemeThe enrolment scheme, which includes a precise description of the home zone, may be also viewed at the school office.

At this point all in zone enrolments will be accepted and a ballot, if necessary, will be held to confirm out-of-zone enrolments.  Towards the end of Term 4, if there are still places available a second ballot will be held for those students not in zone.  For students joining the school during 2024, any students living in zone will be admitted upon receipt of enrolment form with supporting documentation.  Out-of-zone student applications will be received at any time but will need to go through the ballot process which is intended to be held near the end of each term for enrolment in the following term. Please see below for further updates during the year.

The Board has determined that 140 Year 7 and 15 Year 8 places are likely to be available out-of-zone students next year.  The exact number of out-of-zone places available will depend on the number of applications received from students who live within the school’s home zone.

Next year there may be more Enrolment periods open for out-of-zone students who wish to commence schooling at Kirkwood during 2025.

If you are unable to complete an application online you may print and complete the following application:
2024 and 2025 Enrolment Application.

Out of Zone enrolments are welcome. A school zone does not restrict students living outside of zone from enrolling.

The enrolment of out-of-zone students is governed by the provisions of the Education and Training Act 2020.

If the number of out-of-zone applications exceeds the number of places available, students will be selected by ballot.  If a ballot for out-of-zone places is required, it will be held on 6 September 2023, Parents will be informed of the outcome of the ballot within three working days of the ballot being held.

Priority groups for out-of-zone students:

  • Siblings of current students
  • Siblings of former students
  • Children of former students
  • Children of Board employees or Board members
  • All other applicants.
