Board of Trustees Election 2016

Board of Trustee Elections, Friday 3 June 2016

In June this year parents and caregivers of our school community will be electing a new Board of Trustees for the next three-year term.

The Board sets the vision for our school.  It is responsible for the school’s performance and ensures that all legal requirements are met.  You don`t need to be an expert however you do need to be prepared to learn and the really good thing is that as part of a team, the responsibility is shared.

The Board meets once every month and occasionally there will be other meetings in-between as required (eg the financial or property sub-committee may meet).  There is some reading to be done in preparation for the meetings.  Training is available for new trustees and being a trustee looks great on your CV!

Parent nomination forms will be posted out to you at the beginning of May.

There are three ways you can participate in these elections:
  • standing for election;
  • nominating someone for the election (but please ask them first!); and
  • voting in the election.
If you are interested and wish to find out more about it, please either collect an information guide from the office, and/or contact the Board Chair.

I wish to say a big thank you to all our current trustees for your time and effort, some standing for re-election and some moving on.

Please ring me if you have any questions on 021 02935054

 Regards
Paul Lancaster
Board of Trustees Chairperson

Bus Services – Message from ECAN

Message from the Public Bus Services as follows:

We have been advised by Ritchies, the operator of the 76 school bus service (Upper Riccarton Schools to Lincoln) that the bus picking up Kirkwood students heading to Lincoln has been very full in the afternoons.

There is some confusion about the nature of school bus services which might be helpful for you to be aware of. Rather than being provided as an alternative to the urban routes, the school services are provided to supplement the urban bus network in areas where public bus routes are being overwhelmed by demand from school students at the beginning and end of school hours. Students therefore have the choice between catching the school bus or the urban services.

For older more confident Kirkwood students the alternative urban bus to get them home is the #80 Lincoln bus. To catch this bus, Kirkwood students can cross at the pedestrian signals to Wharenui Road and catch the #80 Lincoln from the bus stop outside number 5 Wharenui Road.

Maps and timetables for this route are available at http://www.metroinfo.co.nz/timetables/Pages/Timetable.aspx?routeid=80.

Uniforms & Orientation Packs

Uniforms – We are aware The Warehouse is running out of our popular sizes. Please do not worry about not wearing the correct uniform when you start school if you are unable to purchase the correct size. You are welcome to make do with other options until supplies have been replenished.

Orientation Packs – Please contact the office by phone or email if you have not received your Orientation Pack. Details on how to book your ‘meet the teacher’ interviews on Thursday 28 January or Friday 29 January are detailed in the pack. We look forward to meeting you all soon.

Bus safety

There has been an incident today at the bus stop which we have been made aware of.

If your child should catch a bus please talk to them about keeping themselves safe on their way to and from school.

Thank you.

Board of Trustees meetings

The Board of Trustees will hold meetings on the following dates throughout the year.  Everyone is welcome to attend, but please let the office know beforehand.

Thursday 31 March 2016

PTA

The next PTA meeting will be held on Wednesday 30 March at  7.30pm in the staffroom.  Everyone is welcome.

If you are interested in joining the PTA, this would be an excellent time to come along for a look and sees what goes on.  Meetings are held once a month and last approximately 1 hour.  This is a good way to meet other parents/caregivers at the school.

If you would like more information, please ring the office on 348 7718 or email school.information@kirkwood.school.nz
